n the last few days attention has been captured by the recent gas discovery made by Eni with its Cronos-1 exploration well in Block-6 offshore Cyprus, which (if confirmed) will follow the discovery made by the company in February 2018 with Calypso 1 within the same block. Calypso 1 was described as a ‘promising’ gas discovery which confirms the extension of the “Zohr like” play in the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone. The well encountered an extended gas column in rocks of Miocene and Cretaceous age, this latter showing excellent reservoir characteristics. Other big players as Chevron and ExxonMobil (Glaucus well) are also present in the region, looking for similar prospects in an area still underexplored. GEPlan published two studies analysing the characteristics and similarities of shallow water isolated carbonate platforms such as Zohr in the Mediterranean region in the Miocene (https://lnkd.in/dcDa6aBW) and Cretaceous ages (see attached flyer at the following link). The studies help to understand main factors that may have impact the platforms geometries and compare the characteristics of possible analogues to the Zohr platform. Contact us to know more! The studies also include live experience in the field looking at carbonates on outcrops! #geology #reports #oilandgas #energy #mediterranean #carbonates #eastmed #analogues #studies #fieldtrip #platform
